Now That's What I Call Moosic! Solution

Users go through the first album (ideally reading the album info first!), which are just garage band loops with moos superimposed over them.

The moos are morse.

In album order the moos will say: MOOS NEXT THE ALBUM COUNT

Based on the flavor text in the album description they should figure out that they should put the song names in alphabetical order, giving them NEXT ALBUM COUNT THE MOOS.

They should then proceed to the next album and count the moos!

In song order of the second album, they should get 5 5 10 8 1 7

They should then take these numbers and index into the song names of the second album, to get MILKME

Solution

MILKME

GC Notes

Most teams did most of this without a hitch, so it was a nice fun mood booster.

  • In album one they may think the songs are like, real songs - if they ask about this steer them towards not doing that (you can literally say "they're not real songs") and more towards listening to the moos

  • Some people have entertained the idea of tone of moos mattering, some songs are all one tone moo so they normally work themselves out of this, but if not again fell free to hint them away from that and say something like "you're on the right track by listening to the moos, but the tone is immaterial" or something

  • If they call and are confused why the sentence they get is in the wrong order, ask if they read the album description (it is VERY obvious if they read the album description)

  • Sometimes teams will have trouble navigating the UI of soundcloud. If they do, feel free to just tell them to go to the original link and start over, or if they're trying to find album 2 feel free ot just directly send them the link/encourage people who have gotten to the page on their team to share the link.

  • Sometimes they'll end up on the albums page (https://soundcloud.com/death-cow-for-cutie/albums), which will show them the whole album but cuts off the flavor text. The flavor text is PRETTY IMPORTANT so if make sure you go to the actual album page.

  • So now once they're on album 2, the literal only thing they need to do is count how many times "moo" is said in each song, 5 5 10 8 1 7 (in order) then index into the given song names

  • Some teams have felt called to count the "moo"s in the song title as well, if they're doing that steer them away from it

  • If they call for data validation, feel free to tell them which song they have wrong if it's been taking them awhile, or if they ask (ex, if they say "I have 4 moos for call me moo-by, 5 for bessies mom, 10 for sweet cowoline, 6 for milkshake, 1 for mr farmside, and 7 for do you hear the cows moo", you can tell them "re-check your data, you have 2 songs wrong" or if they've been stuck on it awhile (I'd define that as over 30min spent on the puzzle total by the time they call) or ask specifically which songs, you could say "check call me moo-by and milkshake" specifically)

  • Some teams have felt they should index into the original song names. Luckily the song names are largely similar, so this will give them "MYLKME", if they call about this… something like "only use music by death cow for cutie for this puzzle" should be sufficient

  • If they try to put album 2 in alphabetical order (like they did with the first one) steer them away from that - "does the album description here say anything about alphabetical order?"

If you are uncertain lean towards hinting more generously than not! Especially if they've been working on this puzzle for over ~30 min
