GC Notes:

There is an errata for this puzzle; the second A2 for the battleship puzzle should be B2 instead. (Thanks Ohana.)

Presentation:

Teams are given a "map" of the boat with 6 locations marked, and then let loose on the Turner Joy

Walkthrough:

Teams will find staff members located at the six locations "indicated" by the map.

After a correct Nasty Weather interaction, the staff member at each will give them a different set of things:

Engine Room: A set of name badges and ribbon bars

Bunks: A set of photos

Bridge: A set of GPS coordinates

Gun Mount: A booklet of "target data"

Radar Room: A set of sonar images

Officer's Mess: Battleship grid, pegs, and list of moves

Staff members will also not give a single team member the puzzle, and will instead tell them that "They don't trust agents who work alone" or something of that general effect. The goal here is to minimize parallelization so the maximum people can see the maximum places around the ship.

Each set of things encodes with a different encoding a word which is missing one letter.

TARGET DATA

Teams receive pages basically containing a scope photo of ships on the horizon. There are long ships and short ships and these decode into morse. Ordering by the date yields:

CASIZE -> CA_SIZE -> CAPSIZE

PHOTOS:

There is set of 5 "crew" photos of a navy crew and their boat. Each photo is labeled on the back with a year 2012->2016

In the background of each photo is a maritime signal flag. Ordering these by year and taking the letter of the flag yields:

ENSGN -> ENS_GN -> ENSIGN

GPS COORDINATES:

There is a sheet of paper with the coordinates of a rendezvous location

The Hours/Minutes/Seconds of the LAT and LONG are each an ASCII character. Decoding them yields:

NAROWS -> NAR_OWS/NA_ROWS -> NARROWS

RIBBON BARS:

There are 7 name badges, one with the last name of each team member's new identity from "Identity Crisis". Each name badge also has a military service ribbon bar. Notably the bars all have a middle section which contains two colors. These are in fact resistor colors and end up being a value between 1 and 26, and thus a letter. Ordering alphabetically by the names on the badges yields

For 6 person teams:

RIPIDE -> RIP_IDE -> RIPTIDE

For 7 person teams:

SOWAWAY -> S_OWAWAY -> STOWAWAY

SONAR:

There are 6 printed sonar images. Each sonar image has a timestamp and two radar lines. The lines indicate a letter in semaphore. Decoding them and ordering by the timestamps yields:

TORPDO -> TORP_DO -> TORPEDO

BATTLESHIP:

Teams receive a battleship grid, a list of moves, and a bunch of pegs. Placing a peg on the grid at each spot indicated in the list of moves yields a grid of Braille letters. Ordering them left->right, top-> bottoms yields:

WARHIP -> WAR_HIP ->WARSHIP

FINAL ANSWER:

Teams should notice that each word was missing exactly one letter. Taking the missing letters and ordering them alphabetically by the words they came from yields

PIRTES -> PIR_TES -> PIRATES

Hinting:

Potential Ratholes

The GPS Coordinates do not point to a valid real place

The timestamps do not decode into valid semaphore
