BECAUSE DAIQUIRIS

GC Notes:

GC to update day-of-game.

Presentation:

Teams arrive at the bar and receive a menu.

Walkthrough:

Upon arriving at the bar, teams are given menus and asked if they want to order anything. The only thing on the menu is rum. If they ask for rum, they will be told "the rum is gone". Teams will not be able to order anything until they figure out the puzzle.

In Our Story in the menu, first letters read WHY IS THE RUM GONE? Every page contains some number of skulls. It turns out that if you substitute the skulls for rum-based mixed drinks, the story makes sense. The number of skulls are the number of words to substitute.

On the front side of the order chit, we list these orders in order: "6 different drinks, 2 different drinks, 3 different drinks, 6 different drinks" On the back, we list the quantity of the drinks (with a special prefilled row saying RUM (all of it). They are later used as indices into the drink names:

DARK AND STORMY8S

Teams take the SPECTRUM OF CGA COLORS and compare it with the graphic revealed through following the QR code. Taking the color’s enumerations, teams get the string A MOCHA AND A LAME JOKE.

Teams order A MOCHA AND A LAME JOKE. The mocha arrives with the lame joke: "Why do bartenders find chess players intolerable?" If teams are stuck with the joke they should be asked to ask the bartenders.

If teams drink the mocha, they realize that there is a piece of paper at the bottom of the mug. If teams get the check first ("BECAUSE THEY TAKE SO LONG TO ASK FOR THE CHECK" and thus teams are given their checks – any mention of the check is sufficient for the lame joke). The check says "Thanks for finishing your drink!" and contains the missing half for the message at the bottom of the mug.

Putting together both halves, teams see BECAUSE DAIQUIRIS (WHY IS THE RUM GONE?).

BECAUSEDAIQUIRIS is the final answer.

Hinting:

If teams are having problems finding the drinks, suggest Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cocktails_with_rum is the shortest list I could find anywhere that has all of the cocktails used in this puzzle.

If teams only have half the answer (they didn't drink the mocha, or haven't asked for the check), nudge them to the other one.
